My second entry for the 11th Doctor Who Contest over at [link]

Here I chose to base my 11th Doctor on Richard Griffiths, the actor probably best known for portraying Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter movies. Apart from being fantastically capable of playing strange and aloof characters, this man deserves the role for one reason only he can lay claim to: He has missed out on the part twice now. He was originally up to replace Tom Baker but was beat by Peter Davison. He would've been the Eighth Doctor after Sylvester McCoy but then the series got terminated. Bummer.

Anyway, this 11th Doctor is as inquisitive as ever, and very fond of examining things 'with all his senses' (eight or so). He'll also take over the more scathing and merciless side of the Seventh Doctor, and encounter various returning enemies, such as the Krotons, the Quarks and the Vardans. And Daleks. Obviously.

I pictured him here in a scene out of the Seventh Doctor Audio Drama 'The Harvest'. The Cybermen are attempting, with the help of European scientists, to reverse engineer their Cyber Leader back to humanoid form, so they can use his emotions to better understand and thus conquer their enemies. The swirly blue things means they're in an extra-spacial/temporal vacuole, but I'm sure you already knew that. The Doctor is ranting, obviously.

The vacuole isn't in the play, but listen to it anyway. It's great.

Ever see him in"Pie in the Sky?" Great series. (my mum and wife keep telling me that he looks like an older version of me) :D

He looks interesting for the Doctor.

I remember he was in Naked Gun 2 as well wasn't he?

I haven't seen ';Pie in the Sky' yet, I have been wanting to for a time. I'll be in London for a few days, going next Thursday, I'm hoping to pick up a DVD there... And I must confess that you two are not dissimilar if one chooses not to focus on the Viking helmet too much;)

Correct! Yup, it's a fat Doctor, hasn't been done yet, but somehow I can see it being done. I should rephrase that: COULD'VE been done, had the series continued past 1989. Now, in the new series, it doesn't look very rosy for an old, corpulent and generally unsexy Doctor. They'd lose the considerably big teenage girl audience.

If one instead focuses on the patchy grey beard and the vast equator, one can see even more similarity. :D

*sighs* With this sort of actor, they could bring back the fatherly aspect of the character. A person who shows his companions the stars, and in return (now that we've had the Time War, etc.) recieves a sense of comfort to ease the loneliness. Even though it's a mere matter of time before the Master crops up again, like he always does.
Pretty good picture, though.

Great work.
Richard Griffiths was actually one of the actors suggested that could have taken over from Sylvester McCoy, had the series not ended with Survival in the late 80s but run to a further season or two.
