This is my take on the 11th Doctor for the 11th Doctor contest over at the Doctor Who Fan Club. Or at least one of my takes. In an absolutely perfect world, Bill Nighy (Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean and Slartibartfast in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) would be the actor to take over the role from David Tennant when the time has come to regenerate. As is depicted, David apparently regenerated in or near Victorian London, and appears to have nicked a police officer's uniform, making him rather congruous with his TARDIS.
Bill would bring back the aloof and strange old man vibe of the Classic Doctors, something that has been sorely missing with both Eccleston and Tennant: the inaccessibility, the alien aspect, the strange eccentricities in both dress and speech. There are few stranger actors at work these days, and Bill is, in my opinion, the absolute best candidate for the role.
I am now starting to send a never-ending string of letters to Steven Moffatt, until he is forced to do as I say. No rest will he get.
What adventures does this 11th Doctor have? Well, he encounters the Mechanoids again, once again in a fierce war with the Daleks. He is captured by Rutans and savaged by Omega. The works.
Sound like a good idea. I agree with your reasons as well. (of course, michael Palin would be a good choice as well) Good piece BTW. (maybe he could smoke one of those long clay pipes?)
Thanks, friend. The pipes would be a good idea but would never go down well at the BBC, given the ridiculous popularity of Doctor Who nowadays. That's just not good parenting
I'm glad you mentioned Michael Palin. He's part of a dreamlike list of actors considered for the part but never used: he's on there with Eric Idle, Nathaniel Parker and Robert Lindsay. And of course Bill Nighy. I haven't satisfied my possible Doctors urge, so I think I'll do these guys too!

One of the cool things about it was that they never showed it; just made an occasional reference to it. (it also shaved valuable dollars off the effects and props budget)
