Made for my mother past Mother's Day. She's an unbelievable Christie fan, so I cooked this up, simultaneously using the opportunity to further my drawing skills and experiment with a limited palette, here to reflect the 30's setting of the Queen of Crime's whodunnits. These are a few of her recurring detectives. From left to right:
-Jane Marple, a spinster from St. Mary Mead -Mr Harley Quin, an enigmatic stranger who always seems present at scenes of drama (murder or otherwise), and acts as a catalyst for other bystanders to solve the mystery at hand -Hercule Poirot, the famous Belgian detective -Poirot's associate, Captain Arthur Hastings
I'm actually quite pleased with this one, concerning the style at least. Mister Quin is a failure in my eyes, he does not reflect the mystery that surrounds him in the books. Poirot is, however, exactly as I imagined him.
Very nice. I must say that Miss Marple looks a bit rumpled as though she were awakened roughly to stand for the portrait. Poirot looks his usual cheerfully arrogant self, though.
Cool, haven't seen that one. Yet. The ultimate Marple, in my opinion, is Joan Hickson. She is to Marple what David Suchet is to Poirot, she embodies everything from the novel and takes the doddiness and inquisitive expression to a whole new level. Have you seen any of her Marple stories? I have just watched the Caribbean Mystery/Nemesis arc, which is one of the best stories she's done.
Funny. I wonder if I'll ever post a piece you haven't got some interesting remark reserved for. Thanks Fro, you continue to make this interesting for me.
Actually, I'm not a particular fan of Christie's work; I just happened to be there when the movie started. (I have listened to several Poirot stories on audio read by Suchet himself. They were quite good, especially the one where Poirot has to go to Egypt to solve a murder and he never stops complaining about the heat, dust, etc. I think the set was called "The Challenges of Hercules" or something like that. Unfortunately, they are on tape and not CD or I would send you a copy.)
One more thing; Joan Hickson appeared in a Marple story where Margaret Rutherford played Marple. Kind of funny knowing that she was going to eventually play the character herself in the future. [link] (I\'m only supposing that you might not know this)
If presented with the possibility, make sure you SEE Suchet play Poirot. The dear man has mastered the role to such an extent that he can't even do interviews properly while in his make-up. He automatically reverts to Belgian accent mode.

And you're completely right about Miss Marple, she's a dodgy piece of work to say the least.
